If there’s a better afternoon treat than a four-minute gag real from director James Gunn’s wonderfully wicked The Suicide Squad, chances are we’re not getting one today. One punny warning, though—this gag reel might actually make you gag, depending on how you feel after watching James’ brother Sean feverishly lick a window as Weasel.
People falling. Silly and/or dirty improv by comedians like Javelin actor Flula Borg. Profanity. Animals going out of control, in this case to Margot Robbie’s panicked amusement. A look at how absurd shooting the movie was in reality, especially the CGI characters like Weasel and King Shark (physically performed by Steve Agee), before the CGI was put in. A glorious nut shot, courtesy of Elba inadvertently tossing a gun into David Dastmalchian’s groin. And, of course, everyone’s favorite thing to watch: John Cena sucking on a severed finger.

A little over a month after its release in theaters and on HBO Max, Warner Bros. has dropped a new gag reel for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and it’s almost as funny as the movie itself. Peppered with actors struggling not to break character, the blooper reel includes an equal amount of hilarious candid moments for the film’s major stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena, who was apparently willing to stick anything in his mouth during filming. Flula Borg, who played Javelin in the film, also gets a moment to shine thanks to his weapon refusing to cooperate, which leaves Robbie unable to keep a straight face. He also gets a solid bit in the end as the real “star” of the film.
For fans looking for more of Gunn’s take on the classic DC Comics villain squad, he recently wrapped production on Peacemaker, which will focus on Cena’s character during a time we won’t mention because it’s a spoiler. However, Gunn has teased that other members of The Suicide Squad could appear in the spinoff series including a character who the director revealed is not as dead as they looked in the film.

Peacemaker will start streaming in January on HBO Max, and if you missed The Suicide Squad the first time around, it’s now available for digital purchase followed by a Blu-Ray/4K release on October 26.

In just four minutes, the gag reel provides plenty of chuckles and gutbusters from the cast of James Gunn’s anti-hero sorta-sequel, from Michael Rooker laughing so hard he can’t speak to Idris Elba accidentally clocking David Dastmalchian in the privates with a prop gun. There’s also Margot Robbie’s turn as a clown-faced Disney princess taking a turn for the worse as birds land all over her body and start going wild while she’s helpless to move. Or Flula Borg declaring his character, Javelin, as the true lead of the movie. And then there’s John Cena sucking on a prop finger; if you’ve ever wanted to see that for some reason, this reel will sate your curiosities. Just don’t ask why the bloopers for this R-rated movie have the swears bleeped out.
